2001 Clendenen Family Vineyards Nebbiolo This is the most ambitions of the new Family Vineyards wine projects. The vineyard (another Bien Nacido lease) was planted to 2 exciting clones (Lampeia & Micchet) back in 1994. The wine has been vinified using proven techniques that Clendenen has isolated during 21 years of nebbiolo winemaking in California. The ’01 was fermented and then softened on skins for 3 weeks, underwent M-L in small barrel, and then was further aged for a total of 48 months in barrel. The changes in the wine during this time in barrel are extraordinary. The wine has all of the exceptional perfume (tar, roses, earth, red fruit) and exotic character (spice, length, ageability) that one associates with great nebbiolo.
