2005 Clendenen Family Vineyards Pinot Noir
It took five vintages for Jim to discover a Pinot sweet spot different from his other selections. This wine comes from the organically certified Le Bon Climat vineyard, planted in 1998. It is entirely from a central, elevated mesa, planted to the Dijon clone 667. The wine is rich and powerful, from low yields (2 tons per acre, 1500 vines per acre) and natural concentration. It is firmly in the red fruit spectrum, with earth, sous bois, and exciting hard spice complexity. This is a stylish, traditional pinot destined to appeal to all lovers of Cru Burgundy who are perplexed by purple, gassy pinot, bottled too early, sold to early, and quite undrinkable.
